DS is now eating 3 meals a day and only breastfeeding 5 days a day. He sleeps through the night and I pump before I go to bed. I have been on the mini pill since 6 weeks postpartum. Should I look into getting on the regular pill? Or an IUD? I am worried because I read the mini pill doesn’t work as well once a baby isn’t breastfeeding around the clock. I have been on the mini pill before and it has always been effective but I have never been on it this long (7 months postpartum).
I am on the mini pill now, 4 months post partum. I didn't want an IUD (know too many people who have had issues), and I can't take a combo pill due to the estrogen (history of aural migraine). I was told by my OB that the mini pill is nearly as effective as a combo pill, provided it is taken at EXACTLY the same time every day. I've spoken to two different doctors, and neither told me that effectiveness changes when the baby is no longer nursing as much. I don't see how that would have any bearing on the delivery of progesterone received from the pill, anyway. My understanding is that the lack of effectiveness some women experience is due to not following guidance with regard to taking it at the same time every day. I set an alarm on my phone.
