Do your research now and figure out what you want to buy. Then buy the current model year when the new model year comes on the lot. For example, the change over for new model year for Subarus happens late Aug - early Oct depending on the model. You buy the 2021 model next year when the 2022 models arrive on the lot. You’ll get a deep discount off MSRP for a new car.
IME, this doesn’t save as much as your think it will. Maybe 1-2k on a 40k car and usually color/option selection is limited to what they have left.
Last year, we saved $7K on a new 2019 Subaru with an MSRP of $37K. The new 2020 model with the same features was $38K and they had a waiting list (so no discounts). You’re right - you are stuck with whatever colors they have left. In our case, it was white exterior with black leather. I’m cool with that.
Smart move. Who cares about the color of their car? What are you, 20?
