I always try and determine space by percentage. A king sized bed is about 42 sq ft. In order for a room to be comfortable, you'll need thirty inches on three sides of the bed. This is about 48 sq ft. In total, you'll need 90 sq ft of space. Thats 18% of your total space. Do you want almost a fifth of your apartment to be your bed?
+1 this is a good way to think about it. Also consider the shape of the apartment. If it’s a perfect square, it’s going to be hard to create a separate sleep space. Are there any nooks or spaces where a queen could fit for the illusion of privacy/separate space?
