Now do be smart about ID camps.  They are largely a money grab, but can serve a purpose.  Is it a school that the kid really has an interest in?  The kid should already be in communication with the coach.  And -- the kid should really be working out now -- alot.

My daughter -- now 2 years out of college will tell kids all the time that she wished she worked harder in the summers to get better.  She was very fast and that got her lots of attention from recruiting, but she did not really start working hard to get ready for the season until the summer before her Junior year at college, and that was after a Sophomore season where she only played in about half the team's games.

If your kid really wants to impress they need to be in great condition.  Can they run a 3200 in under 12 minutes?  Can they run a 100m in under 13.5 seconds?  Can they do the beep test to at least level 11 but better for 12?  Can they juggle with both feet?  Can they juggle for at least 100 touches?  Can they dribble well with both feet?  Can they trap well with both feet?  Can they shoot or clear a ball while on the move with both feet?  All of those are things to work on in the summer.  Upper body strength should not be forgotten either, but can be done at home with lighter weights.
