We have a little pond nearby so birds have a short flight and I also avoid still water due to mosquitos near the house. If I were to buy a bird bath I would probably get one of those solar ones with a pump that makes water to move. I know mosquitos do not like moving water so that might do the trick. As to the birds, here is a bird guide for Maryland, if you are in MD, this will work but also might work for DC and VA since we are all connected here.
