What you guys are saying actually proves the opposite point. If you have to be extremely accurate at guessing in order to guess correctly for a particular person, then that person looks younger (or older) than they are. I don't think the saying means that no one could ever guess, but that most people couldn't tell the age during a casual interaction. I don't look 10 years younger, but I've met plenty of people who look younger than they are (often AA, Asian, middle eastern) and I have average skills when it comes to guessing age.[/quote]

I think it’s just that most Americans don’t know what the “tells” are for nonwhite people. My MIL is south Asian and would never guess another south Asian woman is 10 years younger even if white people are surprised. [/quote]
