I look 10 years younger in the mirror until I put my contacts in. Then it’s like “nope, I’m definitely 44!” I think some people just need to get their eyes checked.

+1. I am extremely accurate in guessing height, weight, and age. It is VERY rare I think someone looks 10 years younger. There are always "tells."

What you guys are saying actually proves the opposite point. If you have to be extremely accurate at guessing in order to guess correctly for a particular person, then that person looks younger (or older) than they are. I don't think the saying means that no one could ever guess, but that most people couldn't tell the age during a casual interaction. I don't look 10 years younger, but I've met plenty of people who look younger than they are (often AA, Asian, middle eastern) and I have average skills when it comes to guessing age.

I think it’s just that most Americans don’t know what the “tells” are for nonwhite people. My MIL is south Asian and would never guess another south Asian woman is 10 years younger even if white people are surprised.

Yup. There are almost always tells. Hands, upper eyelid skin, position of the fat pads that sit under the eyebrows, neckline, jawline, etc. I notice these things on people, but I don’t think most people do.

There are very few plastic surgeons who would be unable to guess a woman’s age if their life depended on it.

People do “guess” younger as a courtesy, and telling someone they look young is almost always a generic compliment.

I look 10 years younger but not in a way that I'd brag about. In addition to generally looking young, it's because I gained a lot of weight with my second pregnancy and never lost it. So, I look younger, but fatter. If I lost the weight, I would probably look haggard. Also, some of it is genes (no gray hair, etc.)

People are poor judges of age, people guess women younger as a courtesy, and everyone remembers the one time they got carded and not the fifty-leven times they didn't.

I also don’t get why people equate looking younger with being good looking.

I’ve only met three people in my life whose age genuinely, completely shocked me when I found it out. Only one of them was good looking.

100 this. I had a baby face until I was like 25-26. I look so much prettier at 38. For one thing those cheeks are kind of not cute past a certain age. Plenty of people can look very young but not look great.

They are strangely proud of their genetics. Like men who still have all of their hair.

They take all the money they’ve made in the past 10 years and put it in their body. Botox, face lifts, tummy tucks, boob jobs, etc.

I'm not sure exactly how I shaved so many years off my appearance, but I still get carded at Total Wine, so I clearly am often mistaken for a college student.

(Ignore the fact that it is the policy of that store to card everyone for every purchase. Details!)

What does this mean exactly. How does a woman shave off 10 years off her biological age?
Apparently alll DCUM women look 10 years younger. Do tell!
