What could it possibly take for things to swing at least a tiny bit in the direction of law enforcement?
We could reverse the Republican Supreme Court’s decision that rolled back the District’s gun laws. That would help law enforcement. But the five Republicans on the Supreme Court are too tied to gun identity politics to get votes for GOP donors to think about changing Heller.
You mean back when the homicide rate in DC was through the roof? There are tons of assault rifles in my neighborhood and nobody is getting killed. Why is that?
? DP.. poverty goes hand in hand with high crime rates. If we can't do anything about poverty, we could at least do something about the prevalence of guns on the street and easy access to guns. Countries that have large gun ownership but don't have a high incidence of gun deaths generally have better social welfare programs -- think Scandinavian countries. Countries that have high poverty rates don't have easy access to guns for the general populace. In this country, we have concentrations of high poverty and easy access to guns = bad outcome. Those two things *generally* go hand in hand. Even within states, areas with a high concentration in poverty is where you will find the most violent crimes. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2018/02/21/states-most-and-least-gun-violence-see-where-your-state-stacks-up/359395002/
