My son had a perfect score in math and a 5 in reading and did not get in. He was also 99%ile on CoGAT.
Same with DD. High 5’s in Parcc, 99% maps and 99% Cogat, straight A’s. Asian. Rejected! Something about peer cohort.
How is this happening when a not-insignificant percentage of Easter/TPMS admits had 80th percentile MAP and 4s on PARCC? How are the very high flyers like PP's child supposed to get access to accelerated curriculum and a peer group? Even if there are 20 or more kids like this at her child's MS the chances of all of them being in a single class together are practically nil. Most likely they will get mixed in with good but not elite students. I have one of those "good" students at a high performing MS but 2/3 of the grade falls into this category. It's more the norm to be in the enriched classes than the other way around.
