Being announced today by the council. How wil it impact schools? Sounds like they want equality if outcome really badly
It's about equity - not equality. There is a fundamental difference. It's not about lowering standards, watering anything down, or whatever other euphemisms you'd like to use. It's about meeting kids where they are and ensuring everyone is supported and successful.
So, what's the plan? I mean that honestly. My kids are in a school with a massive achievement gap, and I see first-hand the energy being poured into closing it. Small class sizes, pull-outs for struggling students, a "restorative justice" model that has reduced suspensions but increased bullying, training on culturally responsive classrooms. All kids get free breakfast, many get backpacks of food on the weekends. All of this is well and good (except RJ, which is nonsense), but what else is MCPS going to try? Like, exactly, what is the plan?
Actions, Owners, and Dates.
