You will call the daycare/school and say "I got a flat tire, I'm sorry but I will be late." Or, you call Larlo/Larla's best friends parents and say "my husband is out of town, I had an emergency, can you please pick up my kid with yours and I will get them ASAP?" Done. 99% chance nothing happens and you don't need to do either. Also, I have a hard time believing that your childcare situation didn't require at least 1 emergency contact aside from you and your husband - mine have always required at least 3 in addition to me and my child's father.
Why would I lie? My husband, my mother, my father, ILs (who rarely answer their phone), and to fill the space, my BF who lives 50 miles away.
This is your problem. emergency contacts are supposed to be people that are reliable and close enough to pick up your child quickly. This is a planning issue long in coming. I would start looking and calling around now. Who is your best friend at work if daycare is near there? Which neighbor do you know, if daycare is near there? There are usually older neighbors around that would be happy to pick up a child in an emergency. Who do yo know at the daycare? Start reaching out and building your local community.
