This happened to me. Friday afternoon, raining hard. It was a PITA, but no biggie. Got an Uber, got the kids, uber'ed back to the car, called AAA. Expensive and annoying, but ok. Daycare didn't even charge me extra (I was about 5 min late picking up). It was fine.
I'm sure you'll be fine, but if there is an emergency, you will deal with it and have greater confidence in yourself and your abilities to handle the unexpected.
I’m mainly anxious about it because over the winter, I had an issue with my car and it died. It took an hour and a half for AAA to show up. I wouldn’t have been able to leave the car (it was in a lane) to Uber, and five men tried to move it, but the steering was just stuck. So I was stuck with it.
I mean this kindly, but do you have anxiety generally?
If this exact scenario happens, your kids would be safe at daycare or aftercare or wherever they are. You will apologize profusely, pay any extra fees, maybe even a small giftcard to the providers later to make up for it. But it's not dangerous, it's inconvenient. This is how life is. Stuff happens and you deal with it. You will be fine! Trust me.

This is your problem. emergency contacts are supposed to be people that are reliable and close enough to pick up your child quickly. This is a planning issue long in coming. I would start looking and calling around now. Who is your best friend at work if daycare is near there? Which neighbor do you know, if daycare is near there? There are usually older neighbors around that would be happy to pick up a child in an emergency. Who do yo know at the daycare? Start reaching out and building your local community.Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:You will call the daycare/school and say "I got a flat tire, I'm sorry but I will be late."
Or, you call Larlo/Larla's best friends parents and say "my husband is out of town, I had an emergency, can you please pick up my kid with yours and I will get them ASAP?"
Done. 99% chance nothing happens and you don't need to do either. Also, I have a hard time believing that your childcare situation didn't require at least 1 emergency contact aside from you and your husband - mine have always required at least 3 in addition to me and my child's father.
Why would I lie? My husband, my mother, my father, ILs (who rarely answer their phone), and to fill the space, my BF who lives 50 miles away.
