Ummm advertising. They are gas guzzling SUV's but they are marketed as cool laid back hippy cars so the limousine liberals around here can feel ok driving them - most SUV's are sold as status symbols or bully mobiles not a way to be hip and cool and environmental. And to re-iterate Subarus are SUV's - not cars or wagons.
The Forester and the Outback get 30+ mpg. Is that considered gas guzzling?
Ummm yes - there are a slew of cars that get over 40MPG on the highway now and most hybrids do even better. I mean sure it is a bit better than most SUV's and a lot better than say a Range Rover but in a warming world it is pretty poor.
What cars the same size as the Forester and the Outback are getting 40+ mpg? And the problem with hybrids is eventually those batteries have to be dealt with, so they aren’t necessarily 100% positive for the environment.
