For someone like my wife who has worked out 5 days a week for 2 decades its not. She writes out her workouts on construction paper, has monthly goals, has 2 "big" breaks a year and other recovery points. She really thinks about it. Watches you tube videos etc etc. For her going to the cheapest 30 dollar a month mass marketed gym is perfect. She needs nothing more and paying what I pay for box fitness would be so wasted on her. BUT for someone like myself who needs accountability, needs structure (when I got into the gym I waste time, over do cardio, and just generally don't use the facility wisely), and something mindless (already planned for me) its worth it. I think its a God smack amount of money but anytime I drop it and try and just use our rec center I regret it.
If you are good about getting yourself to the gym, but not great at writing your own programs there are lots of great on-line resources. I pay $25/month for a program where they send me new lifting program every month. I find it to be a great balance of having a structured program that I can do on my own. I am great about getting to the gym, but not so great at knowing what to do when I get there. I like having a program to follow with everything written out.
Is this through a company or a private instructor? I'd love some details as it sounds like that would really work for me. I like/need guidance but my work schedule shifts each week so it's hard to sign up for a consistent time. If I could do it whenever, that would really work for me.
It's through an on-line coach with a big on-line group. Coach is Jordan Syatt (check him out on instagram) Access to the monthly membership also gives you access to the facebook group with around 1000 members. Monthly workout are all strength focused and you can pick whether you want to follow the 3x/week or 4x/week lifting program. Splits are upper, lower full for 3x/ week or 2 lower 2 upper for 4x/week. Lifting program is geared toward people who know how to lift as workouts always include deadlifts and squats and are quite challenging, but there is a huge exercise library where he demonstrates the moves and gives great cues. There are also metabolic workouts posted that you can do too. I sounds like I work for him and I promise, I don't, I just really love his programs and approach. I also love getting new programs every month without having to think about it or plan anything. https://www.sfinnercircle.com/
