A bit harsh, but I had similar thoughts.  Plus, I just don't understand the logic.  Your child wants to wear a certain, perfectly normal, outfit in order to match with her friend.  You are worried that the friend might not wear the outfit, too, thus disappointing your child.  In order to prevent this minor disappointment, you will (1) refuse to let your kid wear those clothes, thus guaranteeing that she is disappointed, and (2) ensure that if the other kid wears the outfit, she, too, will be disappointed.  How does that even make sense?  [/quote]

OP, are you being treated for anxiety?  Your kid is five. This is no big deal at all.  I had to read your post twice to even FIND what you thought was the problem. This is a non-issue. [/quote]
