Question on Grandfathering - 1st off thanks for the links. When reading the language from the final recommendations, it looks like it only applies to children who are currently enrolled (or had a sibling enrolled in DCPS) Starting in 2015-16 all NEW students shall be assigned to the newly zoned school. NEW students are defined as: • Students moving into an area that has been assigned to a different school; • Charter school students or out-of-boundary DCPS students who wish to return to their DCPS neighborhood school from their charter school or out-of-boundary DCPS school; or • Students who are attending a school for the first time (e.g., at the entry grade) who live in How is this really applied?
Not sure exactly what these requirements mean, but I just checked for my soon to be 6th grader who lives in 16th Street Heights (with me!) and attends a charter. She was listed as having the right to attend Deal without having to put it on the lottery. So technically we have until August 26 to decide if she will go to Deal or her charter midddle school.
