Our Psychiatrist has retired and referred us to one in Gaithersburg (we live in Vienna). This is not workable with DC traffic. I am trying to find one locally who accepts our insurance. The situation has been quite stable -- same meds for a year. Would it be ok to ask the pediatrician? Or should I just bite the bullet at pay out of pocket for the Dr? (DD runs out of the Adderall next weekend).
Your pediatrician can give you a prescription until you find another psychiatrist. however, I've been trying to get an appointment with an in-network child psychiatrist for 3 years and haven't found out yet that is taking new patients. We go to an out-of-network psychiatrist and I get reimbursed about 50% from my insurance. It's expensive and sad that there are no few in network psychiatrists and psychologists.
