Retirement and college are paid (thanks to me, since you asked). I think that DH grew up with a family that was not close (and treated each other shabbily, unless they want something), so he does not know any better. That, and control issues learned from his parents. Everything is no. Who said anything about expensive vacations? Are you deflecting? I mean vacation - any vacation.
