Go away for a weekend by yourself. Invite him along of course, but when he says no, go alone. Keep the door open for him to join you if he changes his mind. Then maybe next time he’ll see you’re serious about going and be more willing to join you.

Not sure where to start, since it brings such a petulant stance from DH, it becomes overwhelming for me to think about it. Ideas on something that is enjoyable but not expensive? I know there are plenty of elaborate threads about people going to fancy places, but that is not us. Unless you know of great ways to travel cheap?

I have and make more money than DH, why does that matter? Retirement and college are paid (thanks to me, since you asked).

I think that DH grew up with a family that was not close (and treated each other shabbily, unless they want something), so he does not know any better. That, and control issues learned from his parents. Everything is no.

We have plenty of time off (especially because we don't go anywhere)......

If so, do you book it yourself and say "honey, guess where we are going?!"
