Money isn't everything and focusing on (IMO stupid) material things like engagement rings will ruin your joy. DH and I bought my engagement ring jointly for $200 just to make getting engaged feel "official" but if having the "wrong" kind of engagement ring would diminish my happiness over my relationship with him, I would have skipped it entirely.
