My 16 month old DD is fine, but we were in the ER tonight. I knew to keep her away from boiling water, hot stoves etc but wasn’t thinking at a restaurant tonight. My older child was waiting for her pizza to cool and we were chatting. My baby started screaming and had hot pizza cheese stuck to her face!! I assume she somehow grabbed the pizza, dropped it when it was hot, and got it on her. That was about a second or two. It then took me what felt like forever - but was probably 3 seconds or so - to get the cheese off her face. It hurt my fingers to get it off. I held a napkin with cold water to her and someone in the restaurant had pediatric neosporin in her bag that I applied. As soon as the cheese was off my daughter went back to cooing and clapping and not being bothered. But after 10 mins I saw blisters and called the pediatric after hours line. They said that, because it was her face, we should go to the ER. So we did, and the doctor said it’s technically 2nd degree because of the blisters but it’s actually pretty mild and shouldn’t scar. There’s a hefty copay out of my pocket over a stupid mistake. I didn’t know she could reach the pizza and hadn’t thought about the consequences if she did.
