Glad to hear your DD is fine. It must have been pretty scary. Don’t be too hard on yourself it could happen to anyone.

Op here. I’m not the other person you told to supervise. It was a pretty small table but I still didn’t think my baby (strapped in high chair) could reach the food. I mentioned to the doctor that I hadn’t thought about how horrible cheese is (sticky / hard to get off) and he said he wouldn’t have either. The irony in this is I wasn’t on my phone, talking to other people or whatever other distractions. I was cutting up food for my baby while chatting with my 5 year old (about being careful because the food was hot). It could have just as easily happened one of the many times she threw her sippy cup and I retrieved it, or when I got up to get water etc because I don’t sit and stare at my child every moment when we’re eating. Especially as I (mistakenly) thought she couldn’t teach that far. I do feel awful about this but mistakes happen and was just trying to help others be more thoughtful than I was.

I am always amazed at how many posters there are here that are just plain jackasses. Sometimes I wonder if posters who make such comments even have kids to begin with. Things can happen in just a matter of seconds. While you're turning around to pick up your dropped napkin or calm your other child down or to sneeze. It's not like this lady went to go to the bathroom and left her child unattended.

My 16 month old DD is fine, but we were in the ER tonight. I knew to keep her away from boiling water, hot stoves etc but wasn’t thinking at a restaurant tonight. My older child was waiting for her pizza to cool and we were chatting. My baby started screaming and had hot pizza cheese stuck to her face!! I assume she somehow grabbed the pizza, dropped it when it was hot, and got it on her. That was about a second or two. It then took me what felt like forever - but was probably 3 seconds or so - to get the cheese off her face. It hurt my fingers to get it off.

I held a napkin with cold water to her and someone in the restaurant had pediatric neosporin in her bag that I applied. As soon as the cheese was off my daughter went back to cooing and clapping and not being bothered. But after 10 mins I saw blisters and called the pediatric after hours line. They said that, because it was her face, we should go to the ER. So we did, and the doctor said it’s technically 2nd degree because of the blisters but it’s actually pretty mild and shouldn’t scar. There’s a hefty copay out of my pocket over a stupid mistake. I didn’t know she could reach the pizza and hadn’t thought about the consequences if she did.
