I was impatient after my IUI and tested every single day.  What I noticed was that the line got slightly fainter from day 1-8 and then started to get darker from day 9-14.  It was never really that dark, but towards the end of the 14 days it is clearly my HCG, as opposed to the trigger shot, which is all that matters.

If you can't wait 14 days, then you should test consistently to see if you notice a trend.  To avoid the high cost, you can buy cheap HPTs on Amazon (about 25 for $10) to chart your progress.

And yes, I felt symptoms immediately - bloating, swollen breasts, cramping and painfully tight ligaments around my pelvic region.  The problem is that the symptoms are often similar to those of your period, so you can't read too much into them.  The only thing that was new for me was the ligament pain, but everyone is different.
