What age group? I have a DC in the same situation and considered this as an option but afraid the rec games would conflict and couldnt commit to practices etc. He for sure needs more playing time and as it starts to get more competitive he rides the bench and only gets 5-10mins playing time. Granted this is u11 and I would sign him up for a different club.
My child is currently u10. We are looking at doing this next season. On a good day our son plays 10 minutes on the field because he is often in goal. We’ve seen his field skills and confidence deteriorate over this past year while the other players with more field time get better and better. We wish we had spoken up early on about so much time in the goal but our child enjoys it and plays exceptionally well there. We have done privates to work on foot skills but those privates aren’t a substitute for game play. We really think an extra game a week where he is playing at a lower level will instill some confidence. We were at a tournament today where more than one parent mentioned their child is doing this.
