Yes, with CAT it is adapted based on how the child answers. If she got a easy ones right, they do get harder, so it may have been hard because she was doing well. My son found for example math easier the year he just passed. The year he got pass advance, he complained about some very hard questions and we too wondered if he failed.

Two real reasons

1.) It benefits the school more than you. Pass rates are published, affect school rankings and even real estate values. If everyone asked to re-take refused, your school's ranking would decrease.

2.) If your kid goes from 375-400 it doesn't matter in terms of placement. Your child will be identified as one to watch in a good way-he/she may need extra help and will likely get it to ensure there isn't a pass issue the next year. If your kid goes from say 375 to a 450, the 375 will be seen as a fluke and there will likely be no red flags.[/quote]
