Two real reasons

1.) It benefits the school more than you. Pass rates are published, affect school rankings and even real estate values. If everyone asked to re-take refused, your school's ranking would decrease.

2.) If your kid goes from 375-400 it doesn't matter in terms of placement. Your child will be identified as one to watch in a good way-he/she may need extra help and will likely get it to ensure there isn't a pass issue the next year. If your kid goes from say 375 to a 450, the 375 will be seen as a fluke and there will likely be no red flags.

my 4th grader failed who is ADHD Combine type failed her reading sol by 4 points. Her teacher is very nice and I told her she will only retake her sols when she's in high school because she will need them to graduated, other than that there no point. Her medication is working well but why waste her time in a test? she got nervous when she was taking it. she passed her history and math sol

My kid's Algebra 2 teacher never let me know last year. They informed me in December of this school year that they would have to try retake. FCPS.

What is the new SOL format? How does it work? Is this for all tests going forward?

It could depend on how quickly the teacher gets the info and how quickly he/she gets to the calls. I received my reports on a Thursday but didn’t get a chance to contact parents until Monday.

+1. The test is designed to get hard at the end regardless of how well you do because it's looking for the limits of their abilities. It in no way means she failed.

My sister got a call the day after the test to schedule a retake for my niece.

If she is in the re-take range 375-399 you should get a call within a few days, maybe even same day. If below re-take range, or if she passed, you may not get a call.

My 6th grader is so stressed about this stupid test. She’s so sure she flunked her reading comp SOL which she took on Wednesday. She said the questions got so hard toward the end that she had to guess a bunch of answers because she couldn’t get the meaning asked out of the passage. She’s never failed an SOL, has great reading comp, and usually thinks the test is a piece of cake. Maybe this CAT format is harder for her. By when should I expect a call? In a week?
