I can understand the conflict. I always found Francis Collins' views to be fascinating even though I am a firm non-believer myself:

I also thought about belief/faith being a need at my father's funeral when several friends of his who were scientists (like him) spoke about their faith. These are people who are smart and thoughtful, and I was struck that they continued to have a wish, if not a feeling, of an overarching spirituality. My dad was less so himself but it was beautiful.

Of course not. And I don’t need any gods/mythical creatures to explain any of life’s mysteries.

We now know about viruses and bacteria. So we (most of us) no longer think an angry ghost caused that cold we had last week.
