If your kid doesn’t get into some mildly advanced academic program it won’t affect his life. Really, it’s OK.
So far, my 2nd grader hasn't learned anything in school that he didn't already know. He is not engaged. I don't want elementary school to be hard, but I want him to be engaged.
You've no idea how many parents of base kids say this. This is NOT a basis to determine admission. Second grade isn't hard for most, esp. in this area. Moreover, it is an insufferable statement because I'm certain he didn't know 100% of the material in...let's say - social studies - going in. Truly gifted kids aren't bored. (I know, I know, some will pile it on and say this isn't so but I've attended training sessions on this AND seen this in my classrooms.)
Sure, I know it's insufferable, that's why I only post it here, on the AAP forum. The forum for gifted kids. When social studies is only taught one week out of four, it's just not enough to keep my kid engaged. It's supposed to be taught two weeks out of four, as is science, but they're often missed for one reason or another.
