As a 48 year old - now many years on the other side of years of fertility hell - keep in mind the research even 10 years ago is nothing near where it is now, many people don’t even look into their late 30s (and so what can you do at that point), there’s tons of misinfo out there and “miracle” and “my cousin had kids at 42 no problem etc stories people tell) and the industry is clearly incentivized to get women to do this and their hopes up. Articles like this should be required reading for 20 something’s if you ask me - but it is considered non-woke to voice that.
PP here. Honestly, while this article may not be "required reading" for young millenials, I do think the advent of egg freezing has brought a lot of attention on women's fertility and the relatively short window we have to easily conceive. I for one am not counting on my frozen eggs to save me or even view them as an insurance policy; i know there are no guarantees. That said, I've always been keenly aware that my fertility was on the decline, especially once I hit 35. I just wish this technology had been developed sooner. I hear a lot of women say that they are going to freeze their daughter's eggs at 21 and 30. I sincerely hope in 40 years, technology will have found a way to extend women's fertility to last a full decade longer (esp since women can clearly give birth well into their 40s, albeit not without a higher incidence of some health issues). I think the trend of delaying childbearing is not going away anytime soon.
