Aren't they required to offer it?
We talked to someone at a curriculum night that they were moving towards offered IM for all 6th graders and I quote “Because it was becoming apparent the kids not in IM were feeling segregated and noticed most minorities were not in IM.” So basically they are looking towards a streamline middle school Math now to not hurt anyone’s feelings. So they will dumb down IM and offer it to everyone in the next 1-2 years. Just another reason the increased poor and immigrant population is crushing any chances for kids to advance at any level. Gotta pray for a magnet.
Are you sure that is what MCPS is proposing or is this specific to one school? So they plan to let most kids skip Math 6? Only the kids in compacted math would have finished math 6 if they go ahead with that plan. That doesn't make any sense or else every child is enrolled in compacted math 5/6 in 5th grade.
The plan is to have everyone in compacted math. EVERYONE. No lie. I wish I knew the lady's name. I was floored at the stupidity of how it sounded And no, it was for everyone, not just our cluster.
