My next question to you is what type of excursion? Something educational (the ruins in Riviera Maya), some other type?

If you are mainly looking for relaxation, I vote for the nicest resort with the best price. Caveat, my family didn't spend much time in the ocean. They spent more time in the pool so while some people may complain that the DR ocean wasn't as nice, crystal blue that didn't bother us.[/quote]
