Black corrugated drainage pipe is specifically designed for burial. Schedule 40 PVC is designed for interior applications inside buildings or under concrete slabs. You're free to missuse whatever you want. It's a free country. I suppose you could also use a screw driver to dig the trench, too.
There is nothing wrong with also using Sch 40 PVC for drainage outside - it's not illegal and it's not going to degrade. The better product, from a cost/function perspective is the specific soil PVC that has thinner walls - it's lighter and cheaper, and comes with preformed bells at one end to make connections even easier. It will last forever and won't silt up unless improperly installed at a wrong grade (and then it's relatively easy to clean). The corrugated black pipe is a disaster. It's hard to get it graded properly, it silts up, and it's hard to make proper connections. If you want to use it to save a few bucks, go ahead, but the expense is in the digging and grading, not the pipe.
