We recently traveled for a quick weekend getaway to California to celebrate our anniversary. Prior to the trip we'd been fighting for a week about DH's inability to communicate and I had considered canceling the trip or going by myself. Regardless, we hopped on a plane early on Saturday morning and settled in for a 4-5 hour flight. We were seated at the window and middle seat next to a sweet old lady. As soon as the flight attendants came around offering drinks DH ordered a Bloody Mary and the sweet old lady (seated next to me) commented that she didn't realize Bloody Mary's were available. She looked over the drink menu and then commented to me that although she wanted one she probably shouldn't have one because her daughter was picking her up and would give her a hard time about it. Meanwhile, DH had asked the flight attendant for an extra cup, proceeded to prepare and split his Bloody Mary into two cups (he was a bartender back in the day) and gave the second drink to the old lady! She was so thrilled and grateful. I was sitting back watching the interaction and just thinking about how, in the midst of all my irritation with him, I'd forgotten what a generous, thoughtful person he actually is. It was such a simple gesture for a complete stranger and reminded me of one of the main reasons I've always been so enamored by him.
