...and I feel so guilty! He's a very alert and interactive six weeks old. He had his first shots today so he's been a little lethargic. But he fell asleep after his bottle, woke up when I swaddled him, and since i'm trying to institute a bedtime I put him in his crib and he's just laying there, no protest, not a peep, but eyes wide open. I feel like I should pick him up and cuddle him but I know that's a bad habit. Not a question, I guess. Just looking for a "me too" or a "don't be silly, he's fine."
If he's not fussing he's fine, but don't feel you can't cuddle him for fear of the "rules." Cuddle your new baby whenever and for however long you'd like. You are his world.
Well said. OP - at this age, just try to put your baby down drowsy but awake occasionally. Don't worry too much about sleep stuff yet. If you want to hold him for some naps, or snuggle (safely!) for naps, by all means, do it. The time you have to do that is so, so short. Enjoy it!
