The opposite of all the other kids mentioned so far. Still unmotivated and hasn't done a thing to look at college info on his own. They are working on the essay in school. He hasn't done anything else. He had to look at the Common App prompts to pick one to work one. But that's it. It's like pulling teeth. We are trying to do a weekly college meeting to avoid constant nagging. Not working so well. Pretty sure he's going to end up at big lower tier public or possibly small not-highly-ranked LAC if it offers enough aid. I have done a lot of research and we've done a lot of college tours but he just doesn't seem to care that much. I vacillate between being terrified he'll lose his way at the big school and feeling it's okay, lots of people are happy with it and if he's ok with it, I need to chill. Bottom line, I'm the one who's worried and I can't wait until this is all over.
Lots of people are happy with it. And lots of other people have a motivation swing at some point in their lives: the go-getters decide to have a respectable but not dazzling career, the kids who drifted in high school suddenly find something that really captures them, and suddenly they've got the window office and are supervising former go-getters.
