Is this a bad idea? I'm thinking about asking for a month extension. The company changed from offering me a contract job ( 1 year) to a permanent position. This most likely means they need the position filled urgently. I'm not sure what to do. Could they take the job offer back if I ask for a later start date?
My friend is defending her first three chapters and working FT. You can't do both? She's married with kids, btw.
Your friend might be in art history or education and OP might be in physics which is a good deal more difficult. Stop being an asshole.
Have you done a PhD in the sciences, the humanities, and the social sciences? You seem to be sure of how hard dissertation defenses are in these fields in relation to each other. I have a PhD in biochemistry. My husband has a PhD in English. The period around his defense was much more difficult than mine due to the different ways in which these fields structure the dissertation requirements. It isn't really relavent to the OP's question, but you were so smug that I wanted to point out the fact that you don't seem to really understand what you are talking about.
