Okay, here's my take on the situation. This woman just got dumped. She was either in a LTR and got dumped because she wasn't the right one or she was in a string of short relationships and keeps getting dumped. She's in her 30's and desparate. She wants the guy to take care of her, to have a family and she set herself a set of goals, none of which she's met. Her biological clock is ticking. She wants to start anew, so she has this city she wants to go to, but she's desparate, so she calls up her "backup plan" who is the guy who she knows crushed on her in college and hasn't gotten anywhere. She wants him to come to new city, be her BF, and fallback husband to have her kids while she keeps searching for her right guy. If/when she finds it, she'll dump backup dude and settle down with Mr. Right and her kids. I've actually seen a couple of cases like this and the nice but awkward guy always gets dumped and left without his kids with limited visitation OR he gets dumped and gets full custody of the kids while she goes off to sleep with Mr. Right hoping to have kids with him. If she doesn't, she'll contest and try to win back her kids from backup dude.
