I like Kerry and have only ever heard it used for a girl. I would pronounce Kerry and Carrie differently, so I wouldn't think of substituting one for the other.
How do you say them differently? They are the same .
Nope. My HS class had a Carrie and a Kerry. One, obviously, is pronounced with an /a/ sound and the other with an /e/ sound. Kerry rhymes with Berry. Carrie rhymes with Larry.
I have a Larry in my family and a lot of people around here pronounce it as rhyming with "berry." New Yorkers tend to pronounce Carrie and Larry with the "a" sounding like the "a" in "cat" while "Kerry" would have the "berry" sound. I've known a man named Kerry and a woman named Kerry. I've known several Carries and they were all girls or women.
