What is the ugliest building you've seen on a college campus?

Ha! I totally agree. I choose not to apply to Skidmore because of the architecture. I brought my daughter there to see, because it is a great school. She had the same reaction! Yikes!

Ditto!! This!

The old law school building at Washington University.

It was so bad, so out of place with the rest of the campus, they tore it down (and it wasn't that old). Renovation was not possible. It looked like someone just picked up a building from some "modern" campus and dropped it in.

They went back to a straight Gothic design in its place to match most of the rest of campus.

My 17 y.o. DS is mildly obsessed with Brutalist architecture following some campus tours last fall.

LOL - looks like a lemon meringue pie!

I like some of these -- the hospital at Stony Brook seems cool, for example -- and I can see how some might be nice to be in even if they're bad outside. I think the Pitt building must have outside space on every level, right?

But Erdman at Bryn Mawr is just grim, inside and out.

My law school has an aggressively ugly building

This sculpture was hanging over one of the doors - it was so outsized and heavy it always looked like it would topple down and crush people. I feel like being disorienting was part of the point.

I went there too, and it’s boring and generic brick buildings, but not notably ugly. Just standard-issue college campus.

I think with the last decade of renovations, it's now an above average nice-looking campus. Many buildings are a touch generic, but the grounds have nice plantings, and the new buildings give the brick buildings a more contemporary feel. It's hilly and has lots of winding places and sculptures and sitting areas.

There's enough crazy going on here that I kind of like it, especially on the inside.

Came here to nominate Lauinger but, I don't know, after seeing some of these photos, maybe Lauinger isn't as ugly as I thought.
Naw, after I fixed the photo from the earlier post so it would show, I realized, yes, it's very ugly!
