It’s okay for kids to not get everything they want, right?

If I gave my 6 year old everything he wanted he'd have a jet pack.

My kids know they get everything they need and some things they want. I say no all the time and don't even blink.

She already said that HER DD has dolls! One doll is sufficient for any child.

Yes, but are they baby dolls? Maybe she should find out why her DD wants a new doll. Is it just for the newness of an item or is there something specific her DD is looking for? Your statement is very rigid.

For special gift-giving occasions like birthday/Christmas? You should absolutely gift what *she* wants (within reason) vs what *you* want

+1 I would get her a baby doll for the birthday/Christmas/Hanukkah, etc. My kid’s heart is a bottomless pit of desire for monster trucks. He plays with them all, so why not honor that request *on special occasions*? I’m not going beyond my budget and I’m not getting toys just because, but I’m also not getting him an educational toy for his birthday because he *should* play with it. Kid wants another monster for his birthday, so Target can take my money.

Read grit, giving into ever desire and bribing them will just lead them to be ungrateful and spoiled.

What are you teaching them if you give in to their every whim? What about teaching them to be thankful for what they have? If your child doesn't like her swing, take it down. She can do without. If she really, really wants something, have her work for it and earn it.

Haha, now I’m picturing a 4 year old earning her way to a porch swing.

I'm really hoping this is not a serious question from an actual parent, though sadly I fear that it is.
