Baby will not take a bottle and we’re tired of trying.

You'll be fine. My son wouldn't take a bottle, but he used a cup and a spoon right "on time."

Had same problem with DC2 (DC1 took bottles no problem). It was a problem for me because he eventually had to go to daycare, but he didn't go until he was about 8-9 months. What I ended up doing was having them mix breastmilk into his purees and spoonfeed him (which they were willing to do). He would take a little from a bottle if he got hungry enough (I used comotomo bottles where you could squirt a little in to encourage them). Then it was just extra nursing at home to make sure he was getting enough.

Did you try not breastfeeding for a couple of days? Offering maybe solid food instead?

How would this work? Just pump? Also solid food? This is only a 5 month old

My youngest exclusively breastfeed for one year. No bottles, no solids, no cereal, no babyfood. He's a healthy athletic 15 year old now. Zero issues.

My kid is adopted so took a bottle from day one. But a friend of mine BF but then had to go back to work. I think her DD was 4 months. They tried to switch nicely at first but then the time came and that had to go cold turkey. Took 2 days of screaming and no boob but they got there. If you need your DD to take a bottle you may have to do this. If you don’t, keep doing what you’re doing.

Just try again in a few months. I found my babies were more likely and willing to try a bottle after having a few solid foods. They just seemed more open to trying new things 7-9 months.

My second was like that. Bought all these special bottles:nipples, finally gave up and just lived with it.
Both my kids started with straw cups by 6 months for water with meals (bottle hater also hated baby food and so only ate small pieces of non-puréed food from the start too). It was fine.
I was a SAHM, so that helped it be fine.
Regular soppy cups straw cups and just cups were fine and never had a problem with them.

No. Do not do this.

I had four kids. Two refused the bottle completely. Just like adults, kids have preferences as well.

Bottles are a relatively new thing, in terms of evolution. And millions of children across the world have never used them.

Your child will be just fine

It could be something like acid reflux and not related to the bottle at all.

Check with the pediatrician and/or a pediatric nutritionist. Mine refused the bottle and she had to have a g-tube for a year so she could get nourishment. Saying that they’ll eventually get hungry enough to take a bottle isn’t always true.

We had the same problem and actually used a bottle that was like a sippy cup instead of a nipple.

What worked for us was slipping in the bottle nipple while breastfeeding and then gently easing the baby off the boob and onto the bottle nipple.
