showering at the gym?

Yes, that is what I meant. I have cheap flip flops from target (I think they were in the $1 section even) that are only for showering at the gym.

I shower at the gym (wear shoes), but does anyone remember the post on DCUM where someone said that they peed in the gym shower? UGH. So nasty. I hope the poster was a guy...

Can I ask a silly question about shower shoes? What do you do with them when you're done? I mean, they're all wet... and presumably, they have all the germs/fungus on them that you're trying to avoid.... Do you wipe them off? Put them in your gym bag? What?

I've always just gone barefoot... never had a problem (yet). But I really am curious as to how shower shoes really help unless you're throwing them out every day...

put them in a plastic bag, then put that in your gym bag.

I do because I'm usually working out and then going straight from there to somewhere that isn't home. to make it easier/less gross:
(1) bring flip-flops (you can throw them in the wash occasionally)
(2) pare down your morning routine to fewer products and keep the gym bag packed all the time so you don't forget something
(3) put an adhesive-backed non-slip shower decal on the bottom of your soapdish - a lot of the gyms I'm at seem to be lacking shelves to put your stuff, but they do often have a soap dispenser, and it's easier to keep your soap on top of that than on the floor. (where it fills up with water and gets gooey.) The soap dispenser top is usually smooth and slippery; without the non-slip shower decal, the soapdish will slide right off.
(4) if your gym doesn't supply towels, bring a plastic hanger and hang wet towels in the backseat of your car to dry so they don't mildew.

I shower at the gym most weekdays before going in to work. It's clean (I see the cleaning lady cleaning constantly), there are lots of towels, a sauna, a steam room, and I keep my toiletries in my gym bag. What's not to like? Some of you people are real nervous Nellies.

the metro is probably dirtier than the locker room showers.

You know they're using the same rag to clean both the toilet bowl and the shower.

Then I guess so does your maid, huh?

and she also uses the toothbrush for the touch stains

Maye this is a weird precaution and I should just buy a damn pair of flip flops, but I use hand sanitizer on my feet when I shower barefoot in my gym.

No. Have you seen the pee in the shower thread?

I would be leery about hydroplaning in flip flops...am I the only ultra clumsy preson who can trip and fall w/o the disadvantage of flip flops on a wet tile floor? I go barefoot and the worst thing that's ever happened is a plantar wart. Big Deal. If I'm going straight home I'll shower at home though. Also, I would avoid the soap issue by bring liquid soap instead of bar soap, or just use shampoo for soap.

They do actually make shower shoes...not just flip flops. I bought a pair to try but haven't yet as i'm still gym-shower phobic since i'd have to sit my stuff somewhere and don't really trust any of the surfaces...(yes, i'm a germ-o-phobe!)

A friend of mine sprays it down with lysol before hand..maybe I'd feel better if I did that. (doubtful.)

For me it's a last resort..it's just so much easier to shower at home if possible...

So I'm not much help other than to say search amazon/google for shower shoes. there are some that claim to be anti-microbial, etc.
