OP here - thanks everybody. Just got home from the store and am stocked with Vit D, garlic tea ingredients and will use my DH's neti pot. Am drinking OJ, will consider buying zinc and probiotics if I continue to be a sickie. I'm also a frugal person and don't feel like spending any more on this! Thanks again. |
I know all the studies claim that Vit C doesn't help, but I usually drink Emergency-C a few times when I feel a cold coming on and it almost always stops it.
But now I'm also a big believer in probiotics. A few months ago I started taking some daily because of a digestive issue, and haven't gotten sick since (knock on wood!). I buy the kind in powered form that is in the refrigerated section at Whole Foods, and mix a teaspoon into my cereal almost every morning. |

New poster here. Okay, I love, love, love my Neti Pot and use it daily. However, the only time that I can't use it is when I have a cold. It does not work for me when my nose is plugged...water goes in one side but does not come out the other. Just wondering if I am the only one since it's being recommended so much here a as a cold remedy?? |
My entire family (including the dog, LOL) has been on probiotics since early October and we have had NO illness here. None, not so much as a sniffle. We are also on fish oil, multivitamin, Vitamin D3, and Vitamin C. |

Sleep OJ And, as gross as this sounds, my grandmother swears by this: hot milk with some tumeric powder mixed in. I was tortured with is as a kid, but it's supposed to relieve coughing/congestion. Personally, I hate it, but it does work. |
Hot shower w/plenty of snorting in the water and blowing it out and gargling - just try to use the warm/hot steamy shower to totally irrigate your sinuses. I think it's like a neti pot but not as scary, nor do you have to buy anything. This is good practice for when you are NOT congested, as well, to prevent congestion.
If you want to buy something, try eucalyptus oil and put some drops it into a pot of simmering water w/steam coming up and breath the eucalyptus steam as much as you can. Repeat as often as you can. These two things are quite effective at getting you cleared out for sound sleep. |
We have made Vitamin D3, Cod Liver Oil, Vitamin C and Probiotics part of our daily routine too. We all did get head colds this past week though. |
When I'm really stuffy I have the same problem. Thats where the Afrin comes in. Or, just keep at it with the neti pot and it will open up, eventually. You may have to do it a couple times in a day. |
