I was thinking about going to Barbados at the end of my second trimester and my doc was very encouraging - he had a patient deliver there (for citizenship reasons) and had researched the medical care and determined that it was on par with the U.S. I don't think the same can be said for all the other islands. St John, for example, just has a small medical clinic - you'd have to take the ferry back to St. Thomas for medical care if you went into labor. |
I agree... go! have fun! I also went to Aruba while pregnant.... just couldn't drink anything alcoholic and had to avoid smokey bars and restaurants... not that I had any interest in being in bars anyway... |
I just came back from St MArtin and I am now 35 weeks (was 32 weeks when I went). It was awesome! Laying around by the pool and beach - total relaxation! I hhighly recommend it. |
Puerto Rico is also a great option if you are concerned about medical care and the ability to get back to the States quickly. |
If you don't want to leave the Country.... Club Med in San Piper Florida is another alternative. They have kids programs. |
i'd stay in the us if i were you. you never know. plus i got montezumma's revenge when in mexico (diarrhea from the water) why risk being out of the country? i guess i just have a friend that had an awful experience and i am way to cautious about this sort of thing. |
Went to St. Martin at six months pregnant and loved it. Big variety there between lively and quiet - we opted for quiet beaches and doing lots of nothing but relaxing, walking along the sand and enjoying the warm sun. With a toddler, I'd just be careful to wear lots of sunscreen (perhaps dress the little one in a sunsuit/rash guard) and to take it easy. At most places you can rent chairs and umbrellas so there's shade overhead, and little ones love the sand (our DD loves the water too). |
