Her fertility is relevant to the comments about why he married her. He married a late 20s gal because he wanted kids, obviously; so years of remaining fertility are quite essential (and thus quite attractive).

I'm listening to it now as well -- he lived in DC while he went to GW in the 70's! I like him so far, tough childhood. He indicates that mom begged his lawnmowing money and sister pawned the ring his grandfather left him.
