Let's talk about hand me downs

I give them with one caveat - I don't want them back. After you are done with them, I do not care what you do with them - donate, sell, or pass on. I *would* take them, but my boys are the oldest we know, so we don't have anyone to get them from.

I don't like GETTING them because I'm picky about style and fabric, and I feel bad not taking and/or using what a well-meaning person offers. But I do like reusing clothes. So I buy most of my kids' clothes secondhand, at thrift stores and tot-swap places, so I can be as picky as I want.

I then pass on the stuff they outgrow that's still got life in it to people who like hand-me-downs, or I donate them back to a thrift store if they're still good, or I recycle them at H&M and get a 15% off coupon (if they're in bad shape).

YES I love hand me downs my son is 15 I very very rarely buy him clothes due to older family members and friends, and if I do it’s charity shops/eBay, saved a fortune over the years

I tell the expectation when I pass things along. If people do not want to abide - they do not need to accept.

My SIL took all of my "high end" hand me downs and sold them through the consignment store b/c her child did not fit / wrong season (note - I was pregnant with my next when she told me this). She told me how much she made from our stuff - and her comments ended there. Nothing like - let me cut you a check for 1/2 OR - here are my kids stuff for your new baby.

After that I decided -to put my rule in place.

Maybe she used the money she made to buy other clothes for her kids?
