I think there is a lot of truth in this statement. It probably contributes to the breakdown of relationships/marriages as the reality of what is needed to nurture the relationship hits home.

Oh but I am. Single, but attached. At the same time, although the relationship is great, either of us can end it any time if that changes. We don't live together or have any financial or legal attachments. No divorce to go through and nothing to lose in a break-up.

Compare that to a marriage where so many are stuck with a spouse they no longer want.

Never again.
