Do you leave home with your hair wet?

Anonymous
I leave with wet hair everyday. If I'm lucky it dries before I get to work. But if not, it's nearly dry. My hair is also wavy/curly and looks awful if I blowdry it. To be honest, I don't care what anyone else thinks, as long as I like the end result. I think your host mom is talking about herself & her friends & not about what is 'done' in America!

Where are you from? If you are from a place where the weather is on the warm side for most of the year, then maybe she said it because she's concerned you might be uncomfortable while your hair air dries on cold or muggy days. Or if you are from a place where people usually wash their hair in the evenings after deciding to stay home for the rest of the night, maybe she said it because she wanted to make sure your hair is dry when out in public if you decide to wash it in the daytime before going out.

I only blow dry my hair if (a) I've got somewhere fancy to go to, or (b) it's arctic out and wet hair will freeze. So I'd say I generally go out with a wet head.

yep, that's an old wive's tale.

Glad to know I'm not the only DC area gal going around with wet hair at 8:30am! Honestly, I've never noticed the rest of you.

As for host moms telling the au pair what's done and what isn't... we had several exchange students over the years, and my mom's least favorite part was telling these teenaged girls (usually in the first week, before their English was 100%) that they had to shave their armpits and use deodorant and not wear the same outfit two days (or more!) in a row. It was kindly meant... she didn't want them to get ostracized in a small-town/ small-minded high school. Looking back, I hope they saw the good intention.

I leave the house with wet hair every day. My hair is straight and looks the same whether it is blown dry or not, plus I hate to blow-dry, plus blow-drying isn't good for your hair, so I'm glad I don't need to!

I'm a wash and go kind of girl. I almost always leave the house with wet hair. I will dry it if it is too long and I am dressing up to go somewhere. I wear jeans and t-shirts to work, maybe I would give it more thought if I had a job that required me to look professional.

That's absurd. Wouldn't the mom rather you spend that time with the kids?

No, if I didn't dry it slowly overnight, it would be a big frizz mop. Although, it is drenched in sweat by the end of the day.

Actually you don't need to shave your armpits -- just the deodorant and changing clothes every day works for me! Or maybe I should ask my co-workers about that!

Yes, my hair is curly and takes forever to dry. I let it dry naturally because a blow dryer would ruin it. So I would rather look unpresentable for 1 hour of the day, and nice for the rest of the day when I air dry. If I blow dryed my hair, my hair would look just ok/bad for the whole day.

I also wear my hair wet to work (professional job).

I have wet hair every day and all day. I have long thick hair and when it is wet - I put it in a bun so that my clothes dont get wet - and since it is in a bun or ponytail it stays wet until the end of the day or until I take it out of the bun and let it air dry.
I used to do this in the office too - and I worked with high profile clients - on those days I slicked it back with gel so it was part of the look and not that I was just too lazy to do it.
I have to get my hair professionally blown out if I want it to look nice and Im sorry - Im not that rich to look that professional every day - only on the weekends when I go out - hahaha.

Doesn't the mom know blow drying RUINS your hair!? She must not be that bright.

Curious about her reasoning. Maybe you can ask her.
