I'm an AuPair for an American family and my host mom just told me that here in US is not OK to leave the home with my hair wet. Why is that? |
Really? I didn't know that!! I am guess I am on the wrong then ![]() |
I guess the question is, Why would I? I get dressed, I put on make up, no reason not to blow dry. But in fairness it only takes me a few minutes to do so. |
Yes, I do. But I have straight fine hair, and it looks exactly the same if I blow it dry or let it air dry. It's completely dry by the time I get to the office.
I agree that going someplace professional (metro doesn't count) with wet hair looks a little informal. |
I leave the house with my hair wet every day. It's curly and long, and I can't be bothered drying it. It air dries and looks fine. I'm sure some people on Metro might disapprove, but I don't care. And while it is wet, it's not dripping, right out of the shower, wet. |
I don't do it because: 1) My hair turns out much nicer and prettier when I let then dry naturally; 2) I would have to wake up a half hour earlier, and I love to sleep; 3) I always imagined that blow drying constantly would damage the hair - maybe I am wrong on this one? |
I do it but I pull it back in a pony tail (dries to a nice shape that way). I'm very aware though that it looks unprofessional so I try not to do it too often. Silly to worry about such things but I suppose I could run into a client on my hour-long metro ride to work. If I drove to work, I would do it all the time. |
I never blow dry my hair, but I put it up in a bun because I don't think it's professional to show up to an office job with wet hair. That said, I don't know why anyone would mind a nanny w/ wet hair. |
I do it all the time on the weekend. |
Please. Yes, you don't look like a model, but I'm sorry, I'm not perfect and my hair doesn't always get "done"
Give me a break. "A little informal" do you wear pearls every days too ? |
My hair is frequently wet when I leave the house. I have naturally curly hair and don't blow dry. WHO CARES and what business is it of anyone how your hair looks. My 2 cents. |
I wouldn't go anywhere *nice* with wet hair, like work or a party or something, but just around town, sure. (Not dripping, but damp.) I twist it up into a clip and let it dry that way. It looks a little casual/sloppy, but I wouldn't say "it's not done" in this country! |
PP adding -- OP, I'm curious what country you're from, if you don't mind sharing!
Hope your host mom is cool in other respects. ![]() |
I wouldn't do it just because I'd be worried about catching a cold -- or is that just an old wive's tale? |
i leave the house with wet hair all the time. i keep a brush in the car so i can brush it on the way. if i'm going into the office, it dries before i get there (thank goodness for 30 minutes commutes). if i'm going to the store, starbucks, or to run errands...everyone sees me with wet hair. I do typically pull it back (either in a barret or ponytail)...but its clearly wet. not dripping wet, but towel-dried. |
