Probiotics

At the advice of my OB I started taking Refresh probiotics after a yeast infection. I was pretty cynical, but really achieved good results and felt like my stomach bloat was decreased significantly and I just felt better. I want to order more probiotics, but don't really need the yeast specific ones. Any recommendations?

Is it all in my head or do other people love probiotics too?

I take targeted strains for specific health issues, not a general broad spectrum probiotic.

After a bout with norovirus the doctor put me on Florastor. I've had really good success with it, as has DH.

OP here. So no one takes these continuously?

Yes, my family swears by them. I like the Lovebug brand because they include more than one or two strains. There are a couple of different formulas based on what issues you are more concerns about (bloat vs sinuses). The kids ones are good too—also lots of strains.

I've been told by several doctors (including an infectious disease specialist) that pill probiotics are really worthless. They said they only thing that will really work are live probiotics found in yogurt, kefir or the like.

Well, our DK's infectious disease doc requires patients to take a probiotic with s. boullardi to protect against c. diff. They recommend Primal Defense Ultra which is the color of dirt and has many strains.

There is an abundance of research showing the benefits - and not just from kefir/yogurt (although we do that too).

DK takes kefir and a probiotic daily and eats yogurt too. I do the same just not necessarily daily.

My life changed after starting a daily probiotic. No more gas, no more loose poop and multiple trips to the toilet.

I love them.

I take Culturelle every day.

Taking probiotics everyday and drinking home brewed kombucha has pretty much cured my IBS. I know antibiotics save lives, but I really believe they are the reason for the rise in a lot of diseases especially autoimmune issues.

I definitely take them every day! I take a powder form that is taken like a pixie stick, to ensure best absorption. Tastes great, is portable, and kids love it as well....

PP here and having dealt with a multitude of infectious diseases, I believe that they are actually the underlying cause for a lot of auto immune diseases. And we experienced the opposite in that the antibiotics diminished the auto immune reaction to the infectious diseases which have pretty much disappeared after very specific antibiotic treatment. However I do believe that probiotics have played a strong role in the recovery process as well just didn’t cure the autoimmune disorder as the antibiotics have.

Yes I think I've always had IBS and I'm pregnant now so it's even worse. I felt a massive difference in my stomach after 1 month on probiotics. I did a lot of reading and even the gut bacteria that's the difference between formula babies and breastfed babies is what's in probiotics.

They're pretty expensive though, I wish I could use my FSA card to purchase them.
